The black mamba is the most venomous snake in Africa averaging 2 to 2.5 meters (6.5 feet - 8.2 feet) with samples great reach lengths of 4.2 meters (13.8 feet). The black mamba is a very nervous and fast moving snake capable of moving at speeds up 20km/hour (12.4 mph). While they are able to move their bodies up 2 thirds of the territory, giving them a good all round view of their environment.
If cornered and threatened to can be extremely dangerous and do not hesitate to strike. Like most mamba snakes are very shy and prefer to avoid confrontation and out of sight before seen.
The black mamba is feared and regarded by many as the most dangerous snake in Africa. The reason for this aggressive behavior is poison, which is predominantly neuro-toxic. A single bite can kill the average man in an hour. A person who is allergic bees can die within 20 minutes if bitten by a Black Mamba! The neuro-toxic venom is primarily composed of proteins that enter the bloodstream and travel connections to nerve endings, where the nerves join the different muscles. These proteins block the nerve signals in the brain which stops the heart rate and muscles expand and contract the lungs, soon followed by death.
Polyvalent anti-venom is available, but many physicians choose not to, because there are many cases of people allergic to the venom, which often consists of white blood cells of horses. The alternative treatment that hospitals often use is of the patient on life support to keep the heart rate and breathing machines to keep your lungs up. The machines are maintained until the body is strong enough again to keep your car.
Mamba venom is very effective to immobilize their prey. In just a few seconds to bite the prey to die of respiratory failure. Their diet consists mainly of small mammals such as rats, mice, squirrels, dass (hyraxes) and birds.
The black mamba often have a permanent hideout if not changed too often. A typical cavern Mamba is a gap in tree cavities or old termite mounds. Is not considered an arboreal species, but often you can see global warming top during cold days in the trees. Black Mambas are not territorial, and it does not mark the smell of areas in which they live and defend themselves against areas mambas other.
Livestock was held in the spring. After intercourse eggs develop in the body of the female for about 60 days. Adult females between 15 and 25 eggs, which are often hidden in termite mounds. The eggs are incubated for about 60 days before hatching. The puppies are about 50 cm (20 inches) long and completely independent after leaving the egg.
